CITY OF UNION, KENTUCKY

PUBLIC HEARING

MINUTES

OCTOBER 9, 2000

________________________________________________________________________

Mayor Moore called the public hearing to order at 7:21p.m. Present were Commissioners Jonathan Jennings, Gary McCormick and Wayne McClellan. Also in attendance were City Attorney David W. Martin, City Clerk, Kathy Porter and City Engineer Willard Rusk. Commissioner Eddie Johnson was absent.

The purpose of the public hearing was to hear written and oral comments or suggestions on the proposed property tax rate for year 2000. Mayor Moore explained that some businesses have not filed yet, they did not meet the deadline to report their inventory. Therefore the personal property rate calculations yielded higher than last year’s rate. With the assessment on personal property being lower compared to last years we are not expecting to get the same amount of revenue as last year on personal property. The proposed personal property tax rate is 0.513 (per $100.00 of assessed value) The proposed tax rate for real property is 0.222 (per $100.00 of assessed value). Mayor Moore stated that the floor is open for the citizens who would like to make comments regarding the proposed tax rate. Mayor Moore recognized Ms. Mary Fox Union business owner of Union Station Restaurant. She asked the Commission to reconsider raising the personal property rate from 0.222 to 0.513. After much discussion and hearing comments regarding the proposed tax rate. Mayor Moore asked if there was any further discussion from the audience and there was none. The Commission agreed to keep the personal property tax rate the same as last year being 0.252 (per $100.00 of assessed value). Commissioner McCormick moved to adjourn the public hearing with a second by Commissioner Jennings. Motion carried. The public hearing closed at 7:50p.m.
